Septemberbride ... the final details

I know i've been promising it for days but i've literally had thousands of images to trawl through {it's been like the Xfactor audition process...

so finally here we are, with the final 9 photos ...

Unlike the rest of the wedding décor the Jazz lounge was designed in a bold purple.
Here are some of the installations we placed in the Jazz Lounge at the wedding, which was one of the first areas which the wedding guests encountered.

A vintage summer wedding

Ok folks, over the past number of weeks we've been bombarded with wedding images...

Here are some images from a vintage wedding we worked on during the summer

A very relaxed looking bride getting made up by Denise Drake, who was
on hand all day for touch ups.

The Mother of the Bride before the ceremony {who has run nearly every marathon going}

continuing the theme of the wedding.
Vintage elements were continued in the
innovative table centrepieces.

septemberbride : the preparation

Tuesday:

We arrived to the venue on Tuesday 12th September & were greeted with gale force winds, however there was no time to delay we had to get the almost 4000 flowers off the truck & safely into the garage, which was going to double as our workshop for the next 4 days.

The winds continued to be a huge issue throughout the day for all onsite as the marquee definitely couldn’t get started! {Remember I said the wedding was happening in a marquee in Donegal overlooking the Atlantic???}

Wednesday:

While the marquee crew worked away in the wonderful sunshine the VOW team were hiding away in our garage/workshop completing the pieces Karen had designed & already begun working on. These were to be at the base of every table centre.

We also had to complete the 10 arrangements which were to be placed in the windows in the church, which thankfully Karen had already visited & measured. {Preparation for a wedding like this is essential}

Thursday:

Next was the task of beginning the 62 individual design pieces which were to be placed under each candle on the crystal candelabras. When you’re working with a number as high as 62 the task seems never-ending {we were up until 3am tirelessly working to get these finished}

Friday:

Fridays’ tasks were:
1} Finish the 62 design pieces & place them on the candelabras {which didn’t arrive until the afternoon, leaving the garage overflowing with balls of blooms}

2} Embellish the purple wicker dresses we had purchased & place them in the purple-themed jazz lounge

3} Finish the church to 75%, including the ruscus leaves & roses on the pew ends & church pillars.

Saturday:

The morning of the wedding was finally here {& we couldn’t believe it}. This mornings’ tasks involved the finishing touches to a wedding we’d been working on for almost a year. We had to:

1}complete the phalaenopsis & rose arch for the church & another for the entrance to the hotel.

2}ensure the bouquets were delivered to the bride & bridesmaids & that all the groomsmen had their buttonholes on {& on the right way around!}

3}& finally complete the flowerbed design that Karen had designed for the walkway into the drinks reception.
Karen had also been asked to go & see Septemberbride at her parents’ house & help to tie the bow on the dress.

With all that complete it was time to tidy up our garage/workshop & act as though we’d never even been there {apart from the legacy of flowers left behind us in the marquee!}

We will show you some of the finer details of Septemberbride 's wedding very soon ...

enjoy

Saturday Weddings

                                                                                                      i'm sure we all know somebody who's had {or is having} their wedding on a Saturday,here's our advice if you're planning your wedding

In years gone by weddings on Saturdays were said to be very unlucky, with couples favouring ceremonies early in the week.
Typically, Jewish weddings are held on Saturday night, often beginning with a Jewish ritual service called Havdalah, which marks the end of the Sabbath.
Here are some pros for holding your wedding on a Saturday:

Traditional weddings often take place on Saturdays.

Saturday weddings give you great flexibility in how early your wedding starts and how late your wedding ends.

Saturday weddings often are the most convenient wedding dates for your guests, family, & bridal party.

Even if you plan your wedding for a Saturday, you can still ask for discounts much like you would get if you pursued a Friday wedding or a Sunday wedding.

Most of your guests and bridal party should not have to work the day after your wedding.

Here are some cons for holding your wedding on a Saturday:

Saturday weddings tend to be the most expensive out of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday weddings.

Suppliers typically get booked up faster for Saturday weddings than they do for Friday weddings & Sunday weddings.

Planning a Saturday wedding may take you longer due to supplier availability.

If you need help coordinating all aspects of your wedding day please get in touch

enjoy your saturday

Friday weddings

As we all know today is...

or...

Vrijdag {if you're Dutch}
Vendredi {if you're French}
Piątek {if you're Polish}
星期五 {if you hail from China}

Although most weddings now take place on a Saturday it was considered unlucky in the past. Fridays were also considered unlucky particularly Friday the 13th.

It is unlucky to go shopping for wedding rings on a Friday, due to the bad luck associated with that day (Friday the 13th).

However... you should probably forget tradition & think of the practicalities…

PRO'S

Friday weddings often cost less than Saturday weddings.

Wedding venues are often more willing to offer a bigger discount for Friday weddings and Sunday weddings.

Friday weddings give you the option of having a more informal party the day after your wedding.

Friday weddings allow you and your new husband to relax for the rest of the weekend & then fly out for your honeymoon on Monday, when flights most likely cost less than they do over the weekend.

It’s more likely that your photographer & priest, wedding venue, DJ or band, etc. will be available on a Friday than a Saturday.

The guest minimums should typically be lower on a Friday for those venues that require you to book your event with a certain number of guests or more.

Here are some cons for holding your wedding on a Friday:

 All of your guests who typically work during the week will have to take either a day off or a half-day on Friday to attend your wedding. The out-of-town guests may have to take off Thursday as well for travel arrangements. You may get fewer guests if they cannot afford to take time off from work.

 Your entire bridal party and immediate family will most likely have to take a half-day or an entire day off on Thursday as well as Friday for the rehearsal.

 Some ceremony venues may may not have the venue available on Thursday evenings for your rehearsal, although most churches are relatively flexible & hotels holding civil ceremonies will usually accommodate you.

Hope this helps

Hire items

at VOW we're a very understanding bunch & recognise that there are lots of brides who are venturing down the DIY route for their wedding. we also know there are many parties which just need a few finishing touches.

So we've chosen to hire out some of our props, to add an element of VOW to your next wedding or party...

See below a few options...

Here are our buxus trees, which rest in an imitation bronze urn. These are a wonderful addition to any wedding or party. We have used them to line the entrance to a marquee wedding & they have also been placed around the garden at a garden engagement BBQ celebration.

Here are our wonderful gothic style 5ft8" 5 arm candelabras, they are perfect for a classically styled wedding & we've also used them for a Halloween party last year.

Our ivory 12 tealight gate is a brilliant addition to a guest book or dessert table at a wedding, we've also used this as a prop at a vintage tea-party themed hen party, it worked really well alongside vintage china.

We have many more items available but these are just three of the most popular, I will post more in the next few days.

To enquire about the items above please mail:  info@vowfloral.com

Could this be the beginning of something ...

After almost a year & a half it seems that wedding & event decor is changing.

There has been a shift from soft pastel tones & vintage styling towards { drum roll please }
MONOCHROME

The most recent example of a monochrome wedding is the star studded reception that Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries threw in August.

The most recent event that has been decorated in monochrome is the governors ball after the  emmys, just last week.

So what do you think? Will monochrome become the new vintage ?

Questions to ask

Image courtesy of North Down Marquees

 We know that marquee wedding season is almost over as the autumn & winter set in. Over the summer we have been involved with a number of marquee weddings & have come up with the list of essentials to ask if you are considering a marquee wedding.

These questions are not just for your marquee supplier but are questions that need to be asked of many suppliers, they deal with issues that generally don’t arise in typical wedding venues.

So here goes...

What type of scaffolding do I need to rest the marquee on?

What height is the ceiling?

What height are the centrepieces I would like to use? {Believe it or not this is crucial, often times a high centrepiece & low ceiling mean that candles cannot be lit for dinner!}

Is a heating system supplied with the marquee?

How is the marquee lined?

Is the marquee solid sided or soft-sided?

Do I need to supply a generator or can it be supplied by the marquee company?

What size dancefloor should I have for my guest numbers?

How many days before my wedding do I need to have the marquee site ready? { This is a very important question to ask the marquee company, especially if you are hiring a marquee venue, rather than using your own land}

Is a carpet supplied with the marquee? If so what colour will be supplied?

Does the marquee company provide a stage within the marquee? If so what size is required?{ask your band how much space they will need}

Does a kitchen marquee need to be supplied? If so, is the cost of the equipment included?

What type of toilets are available?

the last piece of advice we can give is... try before you buy... get scale drawings drawn up to accommodate the number of guests, the space & the size of tables you are working with. Also try to go & visit a marquee very similar to the one you will be having, take a good look around & write a list of issues/concerns to address with the supplier {if any!}.

best of luck with your planning

Venue watch: Tullyveery House

Situated 20 minutes from Belfast & just 2 & a half hours from Dublin, nestled in the drumlins of Co. Down, Tullyveery House is the perfect venue for couples looking to get away from it all.

Tullyveery House offers a host of outdoor & indoor ceremony locations {because yes, you can get married outside in Northern Ireland- lucky ducks!}

Within the grounds there is a purpose built marquee site.

The grounds also provide ample opportunity for wonderful wedding photographs with walled gardens, perfectly manicured lawns & a wonderfully quaint summerhouse.

I must admit that 'olde worlde' is generally not my thing but Tullyveery has changed my mind. I was bowled over by it's beauty.

I would recommend this for couples looking for a secluded location & to have their wedding their way.
